Filing a patent application to protect an invention
Before filing a patent application, it is recommended to carry out a novelty search, to assess whether or not the invention is indeed new.

A patent lasts for 20 years (10 in the case of utility models) and maintenance fees must be paid starting from the 5th year until the expiration date.
As regards the protection obtained after filing, it will be valid within the jurisdiction for which it was requested. Within 12 months from the filing date, it is possible to extend patent protection to Europe and abroad.
